Arnica's Members Show and Sale in Kamloops

Origins of a Woman
I love the look of a shaven black woman. There is something about the African bones that carries a grace, dignity, power and beauty in her shaven scalp that's not so easily achieved by women of other ethnicities- myself included. And in her shaven grace she shows the rest of us that we are stunning, even without the adornments that typically define 'woman', like flowing locks.

It is as though she has stripped herself unapologetically to the core. In the absence of what we expect from a woman she is even more feminine and delicate- delicate like a diamond that cannot be easily broken and can slice through steel.

This lass is framed and ready for the Arnica Artist Run Center's members show and sale. Stop by and check out some of Kamloops amazing artist March 3rd to 11th, in conjunction with Art Exposed at the Old Court House.

Happy Valentines Day

Silhouette of Seduction

She is a silhouette of seduction
The way her lips caress her latte
Lower lip gently pressed to the rim
The slightest lapping of luxury with tongue tip
Perfect placement of the upper lip
As all sync to kiss the cup and draw its contents inward
Oh, to be that paper cup
Her hot hands clasped around me

Mysterious mistress on the street
She leads and I follow
Humbled in her shadow

Pheromones creating quivers of want and wanting in my loins
Resist, restrain the rising

That ripe pear
Would be so fine to fondle
Ten feet between us erased in my mind
Mounted like a fiery mare
Fingers tangled in a black mane
Fingers that feel their way into every crevasse
Meandering over peaks and valleys
Wandering curly forests until the rain comes

Images of lips locked onto lingam
Phallic fantasies and fallacies
Yawning yoni opening wide
To take her captive deep inside

Nibbling nipples
Nobel niblets between my teeth
Hardened to the dance upon my tongue
Soft and strong
Rhythmic song pulses and gyrates to higher vibrations
As the serpent uncoils
Shivering up our spines

With a blink she turns a corner and abandons my vision
I'm thrown hard, aghast against a brick wall
A reality without her and a world dark and grey
Brightened only by her lingering scent that haunts my nostrils

Black History Month

Bigotry is an extra hot topic these days.  The world holds its breath as America grapples with their new polarizing presidency.

I have not been silent.  I marched with my sisters and barked into the Internet.  I pour my emotions onto canvas and paper and howl into the darkness.

I rarely 'feel' colour.  I am what I am.   I do spend a fair chunk of time theorizing colour and the distorted rainbow of social issues born from our varied melanin.

Being of indiscernible ethnicity I feel a little like everyone.  And no one.  A transient moving unnoticed among the crowds, free to observe unobserved.

I'll use this Black History Month to delve deeper into my roots and the roots of bigotry towards all people, because they come for all of us eventually.

Kamloops Art Battle

This weekend I participated in my first Art Battle.  I was impressed and humbled by the talent in the room, but it was such a warm, welcoming and encouraging environment.  Our hosts, Jennifer and Micheal O'Brian of 4Cats Studio, are such energetic supporters of emerging artists and create this atmosphere.

I can't wait for the next one!

The piece I produced emerged from the current political climate shaking the world.  One woman commented "it makes me feel things", which is the greatest compliment I could receive, and reminded me of the role art has to play in our daily lives.  Whether the aim is to create a calming emotion, to titillate or to challenge, art that moves us, even a little, has done its job.

New Directions

Welcome 2017.  A new year and a new direction.  Some exciting changes are stirring within me, moving me deeper into the creative process.  I look forward to experiencing this year with a strengthened commitment to art.

May the new year bring you joy, love and creativity.
